Define the shot

Start with whether you are filming one person, a conversation or something on location. Think about the room you have and the way you want people to appear in the frame.

Think about sound early

Plan where microphones and stands will go before placing the cameras. Make a short recording and listen to it, rather than judging the setup only by how the image looks.

Keep it repeatable

Save a photo of the setup and a short note of the recording settings. A setup that is easy to recreate helps you spend more time making the next piece.

Add one piece at a time

Identify the limitation in your current setup before adding equipment. Use the gear notes here as context for what I use, then check the exact product and fit for your own work.
