Start with the finished piece
Write down what you are making, where it will be published and what the viewer should take away. Keep that note with the project so the edit has a clear destination.
Keep the originals together
Give the project a consistent folder structure for camera originals, separate audio, graphics and exports. Keep the original filenames and make a separate working copy when you need to rename or reorganize files.
Choose the audio source
If you recorded separate microphones, identify those files before assembling the cameras. Keep each original microphone recording and document which person or input it belongs to.
Make review easy
Use clear version names and keep feedback attached to the version it describes. Preserve the original project so a new revision does not remove the work you may need to return to.
